Thomas “Tom” Ray Richards

Thomas Ray Richards, age 59, of Logan, Utah, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.

Tom was born on December 10, 1966, in Florence, Oregon, to Thomas John and Kathryn Richards. His early years were spent along the beautiful Oregon coast before his family moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming, where he grew to love the outdoors and adventure. He enjoyed dirt biking, camping, fishing, rock climbing, snowmobiling, skiing, cliff diving, river rafting, and countless other adventures. Through Boy Scouts in Troop 110, under the direction of his father, “Doc,” Tom also developed the remarkable survival skills that would serve him throughout his life.

Tom graduated from Rock Springs High School in 1985. Shortly thereafter, he served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ventura, California. After returning home, he briefly attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. While working part-time at University Mall, he crossed paths with Misty Fuller. It was love at first sight. Their first date was February 1, they became engaged on Valentine’s Day, and they were sealed together in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 2, 1989. Though their marriage ended they remained dedicated parents and cherished the good memories made throughout the many years.

Tom and Misty began their married life in Rock Springs, near his family. After earning his associate degree from Western Wyoming Community College, they moved to beautiful Cache Valley so Tom could continue his education at Utah State University. His love of learning and his determination led him to custom design and build the family’s first home in Providence, Utah, where they created countless treasured memories with their children, Leticia, Thomas, and McKenna.

Tom graduated from Utah State University summa cum laude with a double major in Marketing and Finance. This education became the foundation for a remarkable career in sales and leadership. Throughout his professional life, Tom made an incredible impact wherever he worked, from small local businesses to Fortune 500 companies across the country. He was a trusted expert, leader, and vice president, and his influence reached far beyond his professional accomplishments.

But Tom’s greatest joy was never found in a title or a career, it was found in people. There was nowhere he would rather be than surrounded by family, friends, and his grandchildren; sharing his talents, laughter, and love with everyone around him.

Tom was an incredible cook who created delicious meals that no one could quite duplicate. He loved entertaining and making people laugh, and he was truly the life of every party. His barbecues, UFC fight nights, NFL football gatherings, and rowdy karaoke parties were legendary.

An adventurer at heart, Tom loved scuba diving and served on an underwater search and rescue team in Wyoming. He had seemingly boundless energy and was always on the go. He loved fast cars, trucks, motorcycles, snowmobiles, four-wheelers, side-by-sides, jet skis, boats, and most importantly, he loved sharing them with everyone around him. Tom also loved to travel and took his family on countless adventures, near and far, so they could experience the beauty and wonder of the world alongside him.

Tom had one of the biggest hearts imaginable. He was generous with his time, his talents, and the success he worked so hard to achieve. He loved giving thoughtful gifts and helping anyone he saw in need. Many of his acts of generosity were done quietly and anonymously, simply because he wanted to make someone else happy.

Above all, Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He made sure Misty and their children had every opportunity to pursue their dreams, and he was always there to support them. Whether helping coach football, lacrosse, providing piano lessons, skiing and snowboarding lessons, attending swim meets, ballroom dance, T-ball, softball, soccer, basketball, Girl Scouts, or cheering on his children and grandchildren in whatever they were involved in, Tom was present and invested. He was their biggest supporter and their loudest cheerleader.

His love and influence will continue through the generations of lives he touched. Though this world will never be the same without Tom, his family finds comfort in knowing that his love, example, laughter, generosity, and adventurous spirit will live on in all who knew him. No one will ever take his place. Countless lives have been changed for the better because Tom Richards was part of them.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and grandparents.

Tom is survived by his loving children whom he shared with Misty. Daughter Leticia Clegg (Riley) and their children, Zailey, Annistyn, and Huxley; son Thomas John Richards (Zoe) and their children, Eleanore and Maverick; and daughter McKenna Rollins (Wade), with a grandson soon to be born in November.

He is also survived by his sister, Suzanne Syverson; brothers, Mike Richards and Rob Richards and their families; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who loved him dearly.

A funeral and celebration of Tom’s life will be held in his honor.

Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 10am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints building (125 North 400 West, Hyrum UT 84319) with a celebration of life at 12:30p at the pavilion directly behind the church building. All are invited and welcome to attend both!

Oh, how we love him. His life was a gift, his love was immeasurable, and his memory will be cherished forever.
