Susan Raat Petersen

June 21, 1954 — October 25, 2022

Susan Raat Petersen passed away peacefully on October 25, 2022, surrounded by her family, of causes incident to dementia. Susan was born on June 21, 1954 to Carolyn Mathews Raat and Gerald H. Raat in Roy Utah.
Susan was the oldest of four children. Her family lived in Roy until Susan was twelve. She then moved to Logan with her mother and siblings. She graduated from Logan High School in 1972. In 1985 she graduated with Honors as an R.N. from Weber State College.
Susan married Ron Petersen on February 18, 1972. They settled on the family farm and Susan began a life long quest to keep all the farm dirt out of her house. They were sealed as a family in the Logan LDS Temple on February 18, 1977. Susan was a devoted mother to her three children Jared, Lacey and Colby.
Susan worked in the Logan Regional Hospital Emergency Department as an R.N. for twenty-seven years. She loved the challenges and ever changing nature of her job. She was an excellent nurse. Susan valued the camaraderie of the emergency department and built many life long friendships in her years there.
Susan and Ron lived a full and happy life together. They enjoyed camping in Island Park and Yellowstone. If they spotted a bear it was a successful trip. Side by side rides from Logan Canyon to Bear Lake for a shake were a regular outing. Susan loved Hawaii. She took many trips there and was always looking forward to the next one. She loved cheering on her children and grandchildren at their many sporting and dance events. She was their biggest fan.
There was nothing she loved more than having her children and her grandchildren in her home. Susan’s home was always immaculate and the door was always open. You could count yourself lucky if she brought you a homemade peach pie. Holly Logs at Christmas were a family favorite. Susan loved Christmas and created many enduring traditions surrounding the holiday. Susan enjoyed walks in her neighborhood and visiting with neighbors. Her life was well lived.
Susan was preceded in death by her mother Carolyn, her father Gerald, and mother-in-law and father-in-law Yvonne and Claude Petersen. Susan is survived by her husband Ron Petersen, children Jared (Melissa), Lacey (Michael) Kvarfordt and Colby (Nikki). Eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. And siblings Mark (Debbie), Stephen (Sandra) and Julie (Mike) Klauck.
