Ross Edwin Byington

Ross Edwin Byington, Roscoe, left this Earth on April 2, 2026. Born January 29, 1951, at Logan Regional Hospital to Howard and Ivella Hutchinson Byington, Ross was a man of many hats, a master of "make-do" repairs, and a friend to every stranger he met.

Part of the Sky View High School Class of 1969; Ross was a fixture of Cache Valley his entire life. He worked as an electrician for Presto, multiple Dairy Farms and as a Wrangler for the Triangle X in Moose, WY. In the late 1980’s, he found his calling behind the wheel of a semi-truck. Driving for outfits like Cedar Valley and Francis Trucking, with a CB handle of Red or Red Rebel. He spent decades on the open road until his semi-retirement in 2016, when he took a part-time position at the Maverick on Airport Road. Some of his children’s and grandchildren’s favorite memories remain the miles spent sitting shotgun in the cab of his truck.

Ross lived for the things that mattered: his horses, a good hunt, and a family meal at Angie’s—where he inevitably ran into someone he knew. He was the kind of man who could fix just about anything with a bit of duct tape, some baling twine, or a few spare pallets. Most often, you could find him at his house, helping one of his grandsons piece back together whatever vehicle they had currently torn apart.

Ross had a special soul that the strays of the world recognized. always willing to take in someone (or something) in need. It was rare to pull into his place without being greeted by at least one dog—nearly always a stray that had wandered in and realized they had found a home where they would never be turned away, and a person always willing to share their dinner.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Dave, Steve, and Dale; sisters, Dora, Eva and Linda; his infant son, Chad; and his grandson, Stetson.

His memory will be carried on by his brother, Carl; his sister, Marty; and his children: Ra (Sunny) Yeates, Cindy (Robert) Gordon, Kurt Byington, and Joe (Danielle) Byington. He is the proud grandfather of Dakota Yeates, Kyler (Ashley) Byington, Alex (Brittany) Gordon, Eli Gordon, Keith Byington, Kasen Byington, Kade Byington, and Bubby Byington; and the great-grandfather of Maddox, Kenzlie, and Lettie.

In honor of Ross’s soft spot for the strays of the world, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your local animal shelter.
