Martin Sanachez Garcia

March 20, 1948 – July 20, 2026

Martin Sanchez Garcia, beloved father, friend, teacher, traveler, and servant to others, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, in Brigham City, Utah, at the age of 78.

Martin was born on March 20, 1948, in Larache, Morocco, Spain, to Francisco Sanchez Bonilla and Dolores Garcia Martinez. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, Paco, Joaquin, and Miguel.

Martin was a man who lived a life full of adventure, learning, faith, and meaningful relationships. He had a genuine curiosity about the world and a special gift for connecting with people. He loved to travel and experience different cultures, spending time throughout Europe and meeting people from many different walks of life.

A devout Catholic, Martin loved God and carried his faith with him throughout his life. His compassion for others was reflected in the many ways he chose to serve and care for people.

Martin was a man of many talents and interests. For several years, he worked aboard a cruise ship as a cook, an experience he especially enjoyed because it allowed him to meet people from around the world. He later became a massage therapist and found great satisfaction in the art of healing and helping others feel better. He also had a passion for teaching and became an English teacher. Martin was multilingual and spoke Spanish, English, and French.

In the late 1980s, Martin decided to pursue a new chapter in his life and applied for a visa to come to the United States. After receiving his visa, he moved to Florida, where he lived for several years. Around 2009, he moved to Hawaii, where he enjoyed living in what he affectionately considered a little piece of paradise until 2012.

Martin eventually returned to the mainland and settled in Logan, Utah. It did not take long for him to develop lasting friendships and become a valued member of the community. Martin worked with the Easter Seals program, where he enjoyed the opportunity to serve others. Through the program, he also worked in customer service at the Utah Department of Workforce Services, greeting people as they entered the office and helping direct them to the services and assistance they needed.

True to Martin's nature, these jobs were about much more than work. They gave him opportunities to meet people, hear their stories, help where he could, and form friendships and connections that lasted for years.

After eventually retiring, Martin moved from Logan to Brigham City, Utah, where he lived at The Woodlands Apartments from 2015 until his passing. There, too, he built many friendships and became a familiar and beloved presence among those around him.

Those who knew Martin will remember his keen sense of humor, his stories, his thick Spanish accent, and his tremendous vigor for life. Although he spoke English very well after many years in the United States, his Spanish accent remained a distinctive and endearing part of who he was. Martin loved to talk, laugh, tell stories, and most of all, build relationships. He had a remarkable ability to make connections with people and leave an impression on those he met.

Martin was a compassionate and giving soul who lived a relatively simple life. He did not leave this world with many earthly possessions, but he leaves behind something far more meaningful: the memories, friendships, kindness, laughter, and stories he shared with the many people whose lives he touched.

Martin is survived by his two children from his previous marriage, Claire Sanchez Garcia and Martin Sanchez Garcia, both of whom currently reside outside of the United States.

Martin will be deeply missed by his family, friends, neighbors, former coworkers, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a journey across countries and cultures, but wherever he went, he found people to know, stories to share, and friendships to build.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all of the medical providers who cared for Martin, for the kindness, compassion, and care they provided throughout his final days. Special thanks are also extended to the BRAG office for their assistance in helping Martin have a place he could call home, and to all those at The Woodlands Apartments who shared friendship and community with him over the years.

At Martin's request, he was cremated by the caring staff at Cache Valley Mortuary in Hyde Park, Utah.

May Martin's journey now continue in the loving presence of the God he faithfully loved and served.

He came into this world with little, traveled far, touched many lives, and leaves behind a wealth of memories in the hearts of those who knew him.
