Marjean Willie Pitkin

Marjean Willie Pitkin, 96, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026 at Logan Regional Hospital. Marjean was born on July 19,1929 to Wayne and Lucy McCombs Willie at her maternal grandmother's house in Logan, Utah. She had twin brothers Reed and Rand who preceded her in death. She grew up in Mendon, Utah. On July 19, 1950 she married George Leanard Pitkin at Marjean's family home in Mendon, Utah. They were married 69 years before he passed away on December 7, 2019. They were later sealed in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Logan Temple.

Marjean and Leonard built a house in Smithfield, Utah where they raised 5 children. She was employed for 25 years at Utah State University as a secretary and bookkeeper. While working in the Department of Sociology, Social Work and Anthropology at the University she began taking one class a quarter and completed her B.S. degree in 1994, when she was 65 years old with a major in History and a minor in English.

She led a life of service including various callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, a volunteer at Somebody's Attic (a thrift store that donates its profits to charitable organizations), and an usher at Eccles Theater in Logan.

She loved caring for her yard, especially her flower gardens that everyone in the neighborhood got to enjoy. She canned the vegetables from her garden until just a few years ago and was active and continued to drive herself to the grocery store until the very end of her life.

She is survived by her children Diane (Bob) Wright, Douglas, and Cheryl (Mark) Messier. She is preceded in death by Leonard and sons Larry and Steven(Kriste).

A graveside service is scheduled for April 14, 2026 at 1:00 pm at the Smithfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice in her name.
