Marilyn Martin Meek – January 22nd 1933 – July 3rd 2026 Marilyn was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and raised in Royal Oak, Michigan. She graduated from Royal Oak High School in 1950. She earned a BS in Nursing from the University of Michigan (Honors Pediatric Nursing, 1955) and an MS in Nursing from The Catholic University of America in 1985. In a career spanning more than 40 years, Marilyn worked as a Clinical Head Nurse and attained the rank of Senior Staff Nurse at Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring, MD. She worked for the American Red Cross as a nurse supervisory blood mobile staff member. Marilyn served the Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of Washington as treasurer, Vice President and President, working on the integration of parishes within the diocese and the ordination of women to the priesthood. She volunteered with the United Thank Offering committee as both a staff member and as the chair. At the request of the Bishop of Washington John Walker, she played a pivotal role in the early years of Washington DC’s InterFaith Council. Her loves included gardening, knitting, sewing, and making creative gifts to be shared with others, along with the many cats with whom she shared her homes. She enthusiastically supported the Hillandale Swim and Tennis Association’s and Springbrook High School’s swim teams. Marilyn is survived by her three children, Jim (Heidi), Mark (Donna) and Louise (Mike), nieces Sharon Susan & Kathy, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In her final years she resided at the Maple Springs Retirement Community in North Logan, Utah.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, George Albert and Eliza Scott Martin, her brother George A Martin, her first husband, Thomas D Wilkerson, and her second husband, Kenneth L Meek.
No formal memorial services are planned. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, Marilyn asked for donations to CAPSA (www.capsa.org) an organization that supports survivors of domestic abuse.
