Howard Edwin McKee, age 82, passed away on September 12, 2025, in Logan, Utah. He was born in Montezuma, Iowa, on January 28, 1943, to Raymond and Mildred McKee and graduated from Montezuma High School in 1961. While attending Montezuma High he played football. At one point, he and some members of his class went to Des Moines to be on American bandstand with Dick Clark, his younger siblings were so excited to see him on TV!
Howard attended William Penn College, where he played two seasons of football and was one of seven founding members of the Sigma Phi Sigma fraternity—an organization that remains active to this day.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserve in Logan, achieving the rank of Sergeant.
Howard was a longtime resident of Logan, Utah, where he had several business interests. Most notably, he founded Howard’s recycling in Cache Valley, which he ran through the mid 2000s before selling it and retiring.
He is survived by sisters, Ethel Mathews (Robert), Buddy (Rose) Howell (Ed), brother Ken McKee, and his three children; Michael McKee (Katie), Aaron McKee (Kara), and Laura Thomas (Myron). He was blessed with 11 grandchildren – Kelsey, Kaitlyn, Jamie, Karson William, Megan, Brandon, Nathan, Ryan, Mary, Madison, and Josiah – and 4 great-grandchildren—Lovely Lee, Winter Rose, Evelynn Kathleen, and Trinity Grayson.
The McKee family would like to thank Rocky Mountain Care and Hospice for their compassionate care during the last year of his life. They would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the special friends who lovingly cared for him and supported him during his final year.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rocky Mountain Care and Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at Cache Valley Mortuary on Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 5pm - 7pm.
