Hendrik Verhoef 1929 - 2024

Hendrik “Henny” Verhoef passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 12th, 2024.

Hendrik was born in Zuilen, the Netherlands on May 17, 1929 to Catharina Dijkstra and Hendrik

Verhoef. He was the oldest of three boys. He married Stijntje de Jong on October 23, 1959, in

Utrecht, the Netherlands, and they had two sons together.

Hendrik started his long working career at the Koninklijke Demka Staalfabrieken in Zuilen, where he

met Stijntje de Jong in 1954. However, in 1956, he had the opportunity to emigrate to the United

 States.

Hendrik started his American journey in Logan, Utah. After selling Casper’s Ice Cream for a bit, he

soon moved to California, where he began his career as a computer engineer. As soon as he had

established himself with a promising career, he returned to the Netherlands to marry Stijntje and took

her to Califonia. He was soon working as a contractor supporting the US Air Force, which took him

to Thailand in support of the Vietnam War. Then, his career took the family to England, Turkey, Utah,

and the Netherlands. He switched careers and became a facility manager in the Netherlands so his

sons could finish high school there.

Hendrik had many hobbies, but fishing always trumped everything else, and he spent many happy

days on Bear Lake with his boat. When he wasn’t fishing, you could find him at the Cache County

Senior Center, where he was an avid pool player. He was there almost daily, talking and joking with

 his many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Stijntje, sons Erik and Glenn, their wives, Esther and Sandra, his 12

 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at Cache Valley Mortuary on Tuesday, July 16th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:00 am to 10:30 am followed by the funeral services at 10:00 am. From there, we will travel to the North Logan Memorial Park cemetery for the internment.
