1938 Frank 2026

George Franklin Reid

March 1, 1938 — January 22, 2026

Logan

George Franklin(Frank) Reid(87) from Logan, Utah passed on January 22, 2026 at the Williamsburg Retirement Community in Logan of heart failure.

Frank was born in the Los Angeles hospital March 1st,1938 to Jack and Grace Reid. He was the second child. He loved his older brother David and younger siblings Linda, Mary, Doug, Bill and Jeff.

In his younger years the family lived in Nevada but later moved back to California where he graduated from Bell Gardens High School.

He served a Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints from 1958-60. Frank was called to the Brazil Mission. It was just one mission at the time. He wasn’t sure where in the world Brazil was and had to go look it up on a map. He loved the people there, his time sharing the gospel and serving the Lord.

After returning home he met Dorcus(Dody) Jean Call at a church dance. Dody invited him to have lunch with her where she worked the next day, because the dance was running late and he missed his chance to dance with her. They married on September 29th, 1960 in the Los Angeles LDS temple.

Frank worked various jobs but found he had a talent for drafting. He did this work for many years and even when the whole industry changed to computers he taught himself how to do engineering type drafting on computers. One of his side jobs, to earn extra money, was photography. He took many photos for weddings, individuals and businesses. He also loved taking photos of old Barns, beautiful landscapes, machinery, old trucks and family events.

He lived and raised his family with Dody in southern California. Then in 1980 they all moved to Brigham City, Utah to work at Thiokol. Frank would often take jobs away from home to earn more money. He fell in love with Brigham City and the slower pace of life that seemed safer.

They rented a home in Brigham City and lived there till 1986. After job changes they moved to Roy, Utah. They raised their family there for thirty years welcoming extended family and helping others.

Frank was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He had many callings as a counselor in two bishoprics, Gospel Doctrine teacher for many years, ward newsletter editor, youth Sunday School teacher and even the Primary President on his mission as there were not enough sister missionaries at the time, and many other callings.

After Frank retired and the kids were grown, he and Dody took a few trips to Idaho for family history and to Palmyra, New York. They both worked at the Genealogy Center in Ogden, Utah helping others with their family history. Frank even wrote a beginners guide to Windows to help others understand how to use the computers for research. The book was free. One of these books ended up in England and the director of a genealogy center there called him and asked if they could use it. He said yes, of course.

They moved to Logan, Utah in 2017 to live in the Williamsburg Retirement Community. There they found friends too. When covid hit in 2020 and church services were cancelled Frank helped organize a weekly scripture study time, visited people in their little community to comfort and strengthen them. Dody was in and out of the hospital and care centers for back pain and other health issues at this time. She died on September 15th of 2020 from pneumonia. He missed her terribly.

Almost a year and a half later he married a wonderful woman from Williamsburg named Ruth Jensen, June 6th, 2022 in the backyard there. They were both so good for each other. They loved going to the temple together weekly with the group from Williamsburg to do sealings. Unfortunately Ruth passed on January 30th, 2024. Their time together was short but happy!

Since retirement Frank has written more than 42 books and sold them on Amazon. He loved researching and writing. He also took up painting after he turned 80 which he enjoyed very much. He would give the paintings away or just display a different one each week on his apartment door to the delight of the residents and staff of Williamsburg.

Frank is survived by his children - Becky & (Wendell) Waters, Jenny & (James) Sarantis, Peter Reid, Janis Reid, Georgina Reid, Lisa & (Brian) Taylor. His grandchildren - Josh, Katie & (Ben) Elmer, Charlotte & Caleb Waters; Elle, Mia & Ava Sarantis; Jonathan, Annalisa & Lily Taylor. Great grandchild - Freya Elmer.
