Gary Edward Connors passed away on July 26, 2026, due to complications from Covid.
Gary leaves behind his beloved children, Jennifer Hess, Nathan Hess, Brianne Hess, Chris Hess and Aidan Connors, and LaDonna Burgess Connors his wife of 37 years. Gary loved and was proud of all his children, 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He also loved the wonderful spouses his children married. He follows his son, Ian Connors and granddaughter, Mckinley Hess to join whatever journey awaits them. All are, and will be, sorely missed.
Gary was a veteran of the Vietnam war serving in the 1 st air calvary of the US Army. He served his first stint in the Jungles of Vietnam and then signed up for a second tour of duty in Berlin, Germany. Gary was awarded many honors including multiple Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. After leaving the military with an honorable discharge he spent time traveling throughout Europe. He later traveled to Japan several times throughout his life to qualify for his progression in black belt ranks and certify as an instructor in Shorinji Kempo. Later, Gary created his own system based on Shorinji Kemp and other Japanese martial arts.
Gary held a Bachelor of Science degree in history and philosophy from University of Utah. He spent 50 years of his life teaching martial arts to both the community and self- defense classes for the PE department at Utah State University. He also worked for the Physical Plant at Utah State. He loved the friends he made throughout the years and spoke of them often. He also loved all those he taught over the years and those who became teachers themselves.
For anyone wishing attend the Celebration of Life, it will be held August 29 th at The Riverwoods Conference Center (Willow Room) in Logan, Ut (615 Riverwood Parkway). Doors will open at 1:00, service begins at 1:30 PM.
