Dustin Jacob Johnson

August 30, 2000 — February 9, 2026

Providence

Dustin Jacob Johnson passed away on February 9th, 2026, in Yokosuka, Japan, at the age of 25. He was born on August 30th, 2000, in Preston, Idaho, to Maren Stephenson and Jacob L. Johnson. Dustin spent his childhood in Preston before moving to Logan, Utah, during high school. He graduated from Logan High School in 2019 and worked for several years before choosing a path of service by joining the United States Navy.

Dustin enlisted on October 6th, 2022. He completed boot camp in Chicago and then continued to Charleston, South Carolina, where he underwent rigorous Nuclear training in preparation for work aboard a nuclear aircraft carrier. In October 2024, he was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, serving on the USS George Washington. He was proud of his service and dedicated to his shipmates.

Dustin had a warm, thoughtful, and quietly humorous presence. He found joy in spending time with family and friends, especially when playing games. He loved Magic: The Gathering and often visited local game stores in Logan to play with others who shared his interests. He continued that tradition with his shipmates, building friendships through cards, laughter, and late-night conversations.

He also had a deep appreciation for stories and wisdom. Dustin kept a personal book of quotes, collecting lines from The Art of War, Kung Fu Panda, and Winnie the Pooh—a combination that reflected both his curiosity and his gentle, playful spirit. His favorite movies and shows included The Nightmare Before Christmas, the original Toy Story, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and a wide range of anime.

During his time in the Navy, Dustin began collecting challenge coins and built an impressive collection in a short period. Each coin represented a moment, a place, or a connection he valued deeply. He embraced his time in Japan and often talked about extending his stay. He was grateful for the chance to explore new places, including visits to Guam and Manila during shore leave.

Dustin is survived by his parents, Maren Stephenson and Jacob L. Johnson; his four brothers, Jacobi, Talon, Travis, and Zachary; and his  grandparents, Beverly Stephenson, Mike Johnson, and Lora Johnson. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.
