Duane Smith, 82, of Smithfield, Utah, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He lived a full and active life, marked by dedication to his family, his work, and his community.
Duane was born on June 12, 1943, in Logan, Utah, and graduated from Utah State University. He served in the United States Marine Corps, then led a successful career in commercial construction. He spent his later years deeply involved in charitable service.
Known for his kind spirit, patience, steady presence, and warm smile. Duane was always dependable and someone others could count on. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life and was also a competitive trap shooter.
He was an active member of his church, where he served faithfully in many callings. Most of all he cherished time with his family, loved ones and Grand babies. He is survived by his wife, Jodi; his children, Jeremey Smith (Jill) and Shawn Smith; his stepchildren, Charisse Saxton (JR), Lori Durney (Josh), Jessie Baird (Remington) Rocky Bruderer (Mandy); 16 grandchildren; his brother Reid Smith; sisters Katharyn Smith, and Sheri Bowden; and his former wife, Linda Ledette. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Linda Brown.
A memorial service will be held on January 12th at 12:00pm in Smithfield at 340 East 300 South. Viewing prior from 10:30am- 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Primary Children’s or St. Jude’s Hospital’s in his honor.
Duane’s spirit lives on through the family he loved, the friendships he built, and the many lives he touched along the way.
