Duane Joseph Derrick, 40, passed away following an accident on January 31, 2026.
He was born on March 31, 1985, in Logan, Utah, to Michelle Nelsen and Dale Arthur Derrick.
As a child, Duane was constant joy to those around him. Even as a toddler in diapers, he would wear a football helmet and dance along to Michael Jackson on MTV. That early spark grew into a lifelong passion for music, dancing, and football that stayed with him throughout his life.
A 2003 graduate of Logan High School, Duane began his career in electronics at TTM before finding his professional home at Spartronics, where he dedicated the last 20 years. He possessed a formidable work ethic—the kind most only hope to achieve. A master of his craft, he held numerous certifications and took immense pride in every project, especially in his roles as a prototype operator and mentor. Duane was deeply proud of the teams he trained, leading them with a relentless drive that earned him the nickname "Mighty Mouse." He had a rare ability to push those around him to be their best, proving that heart and grit matter far more than size or title.
Duane was the life of the party, known for a sense of humor that could brighten any room. He didn’t just love to laugh; he lived to bring smiles to others, often "clowning around" and, almost certainly, dancing. His heart of gold was felt immediately by anyone who met him, evidenced by a warmth and a steadfast kindness that never wavered.
A man of simple pleasures, Duane lived with infectious enthusiasm. Whether he was cheering on his Chargers through thick and thin or perfecting his swing on the golf course, he was fully present. He cherished the outdoors, spending countless hours at his brother Dale’s side fly fishing the rivers or ice fishing in the winter. To Duane, a perfect summer day was spent at the grill with a cold beer in hand and brats on the fire.
While Duane’s passing leaves a profound ache in our hearts, we find comfort in the legacy of love he left behind. We ask that you honor his memory by carrying his torch forward: show fierce loyalty, extend a hand in kindness, and love one another as deeply as he loved us. In his honor, live life to the fullest. Get out there, do the things you love, live big, and—above all—don’t forget to dance.
Duane is survived by his parents; his siblings, Dale Derrick Jr. (Julie), Amy Cardinalli, Dallas Derrick, Drew Derrick, and Stephanie Kenyon (Jeff); his nieces, Victoria Peterson and Leigha Rossi; and his nephews, Dillan Derrick, Dashton Derrick, and Miles Kenyon. He is also survived by his great-niece and nephew, Lincoln and McKenna Peterson; his longtime companion and love Metta Ray and his beloved dog, Frank.
A Celebration of Duane’s Life will be held from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Logan Depot, 75 S 600 W, Logan, UT 84321. Friends and family are invited to share memories and celebrate the impact he had on all of us.
