Diane Skinner Jensen, loved wife of John, Mother to all who needed One, Teacher of Music, Kindness, Sunny Perseverance, and Love, left this life in the way she wanted: in her home surrounded by her children, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, after complications from terminal cancer. Diane will be greatly missed as a guaranteed bright light in any room.
Diane was born April 15, 1944 in Montpelier, Idaho. She was the youngest of her siblings and the first to be born in a fancy hospital rather than at home in Nounan, Idaho. She fondly recalled an idyllic childhood on the farm surrounded by animals to care for and cousins and siblings who were her best friends. Elementary school was in a tiny building across the street. She would run home to borrow candy to make friends or patch up playground dust ups.
She was an excellent student throughout school, and music played a major role in both her daily life and her education. She was a pianist, percussionist, bassist, vocalist, peppette, leader of the pep club, and active in student government. She received a scholarship to USU, where she met the love of her life while they were both working on a road show production.
Diane and John were married in the Salt Lake City Temple. Diane adored John and loved him unconditionally. Likely no one ever had as many lemonades and sandwiches delivered to them by a loving spouse. She loved to dance with him. She loved to sing with him. She loved to play the piano for him. A wink, smile or a simple line of prose would “tickle her pink”. She graduated in elementary education and immediately began her career as a teacher at Adams Elementary in Logan. She later taught in Price, Utah, where, after years of worry and prayer, she was ecstatic to be expecting their first child. The family moved back to Cache Valley, and Hyde Park became their permanent home. Diane worked as the Hyde Park/North Logan court clerk for 20 years and always had stories about the interesting people she met, told with a positive spin. She taught piano for decades to hundreds of students whose lessons helped pay for braces, Christmas, and birthdays for all the kids. When out and about with Diane, it was common to have former elementary students, small-time court criminals, or piano students approach and express sincere gratitude for the impact of her genuine care.
Diane somehow found time to volunteer. She made it a priority to magnify her callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Later in life she volunteered to play piano at the local hospital and usher for various local theaters.
Her 6 children knew she really believed motherhood was the most important use of her time and talents. She made each one feel like she was on their team. Cookies and milk after school and listening to banal stories with genuine interest were the norm for her. In the midst of motherhood she battled cancer without complaint while simultaneously fulfilling her promise to her own son that he would never be alone during 3 years of brutal leukemia until he passed.
Diane is survived by five of her six children: Aaron of Salt Lake City; Jennifer (Jared Bohman) of Hyde Park; Jocelyn (Jason Bohman) of Smithfield; Dave (Melisa) of Hyde Park; and Jared “Jay” of Salt Lake City; and by14 grandchildren who will all miss her and think of themselves as her favorite. She is also survived by two of her four siblings: Mariel Morgan and Lynn Skinner.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, son Nathan, and by siblings, Dorothy Julian and Garald Skinner.
Funeral services for Diane will be held in Hyde Park, Utah at the LDS Chapel: 42 West 200 South at 12:00 noon on Saturday April 11th 2026. A viewing will be held the same day from 10:00-11:30. A family only interment will be held later at Hyde Park Cemetery.
