Arla Louise Meyer, age 91, passed away peacefully of natural causes on the morning of Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah.
Born on April 1, 1934, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Arla was the daughter of Richard Engebrecht and Lydia Schmidt. She was raised in Chicago, Illinois, alongside her five siblings: Doris, Richard, Norbert, Franklin, and Victor.
Arla married the love of her life, Eric John Meyer, at her home church in Chicago on August 16th, 1957, in a ceremony officiated by her father. She earned an associate degree from Concordia Junior College in Chicago and began a lifelong career in early childhood education. Arla loved children and possessed a natural talent for working with them. She taught at the second-grade level in Fort Wayne, Indiana as well as preschool in Chicago and Council Bluffs, Iowa, and later continued her ministry by teaching Bible studies at Sunshine Terrace, where she eventually became a resident herself.
Throughout her life, Arla remained deeply engaged in her faith and the wider community. She taught Bible studies, played piano, sang in choirs, helped with charity drives, elections, and participated in many community activities across the various places she called home, including Ann Arbor, Michigan; Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Providence, Utah.
Arla is survived by her four sons: Kurt Alan, Gary Richard, Bruce Erwin, and Glen Eric; her grandchildren, Nicholas and Ashley; and her great-grandsons, Dean and Arlo — the latter lovingly named in her honor.
